Manuhita: Lighting and Objects with a Story

Manuhita is the design studio of Manuhita Gupta. It makes sculptural table lamps, wall lights, pendants, mirrors and a few pieces of furniture. Manuhita trained as a product and interior designer and did a Master's in Design at Domus Academy in Milan. Her studio's work has been shown at Milan Design Week, 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, the Venice Design Biennale, Design Democracy in Hyderabad and India Design in Mumbai and Delhi.

These aren't lamps you buy to fill a gap. They're the kind of piece people walk across a room to look at. Manuhita describes her work as giving objects "a voice, a story, and a sense of emotion," and you can see it in every piece. There are glossy domes that look like ceramic sculpture, wall lights cast to look like river stones, and mirrors with dark, shaggy tops that feel almost alive.

Table lamps: the Joan, Iris and Lamplet families

The table lamps come in families, each in three sizes, so you can pick the scale that suits your space. Each also comes in a range of finishes; see each product page for the options.

• Joan: a glossy dome shade on a rounded base. It glows warm from within, in colours from soft beige to deep red.Lamplet Joan: small, for a bedside or shelf.Joan Table Lamp: the everyday size.Jumbo Joan: a true statement piece for a console.
• Iris: a dome-topped lamp with a tapered base, in a black ceramic-look finish or brushed metal.Lamplet Iris: small and mushroom-like.Iris Table Lamp: the mid size.Jumbo Iris: the largest in the range.
• Hex: the Lamplet Hex Table Lamp, a glossy cream cap on a textured base. It is the most accessible way into Manuhita's work.

Decorative wall lights: the Typology and Franca series

These are some of the most unusual decorative wall lamps we stock. Most look like a stone resting on the wall, with a soft glow spilling out underneath. They're beautiful in a hallway, beside a bed or flanking a mirror.

• Franca Typology A: a weathered bronze-brown finish that looks aged and organic.
• Franca Typology B: a dark, stone-like form in aluminium, with LED lighting.
• Franca Typology C: a stone-like top on a ribbed white base.
• Typology D: a textured stone-like top on a matte black metal base.
• Typology E: a stone-shaped light grey top on two slim supports. Industrial in feel.

Pendants and ceiling lights

• Typology K Pendant | Mesh: a dark organic shade with hanging mesh cylinders, one of them dotted with small clear rhinestones. It hangs from a black chain.
• Typology X Ceiling Light: two mesh shades hanging from a rough, stone-like form. A real centrepiece for a dining room or double-height space.

Mirrors

• Franca Wall Mirror: a round mirror wrapped in an organic, silver, leaf-like frame with a small red accent.
• Ancestral Strands Typology A and Typology B: round and long-oval wall mirrors topped with dark, shaggy strands. Typology B also glows warm from behind the fringe.
• Two Way Floor Mirror | Ancestral Strands: a floor mirror on a sculptural stand of twisted stems.

Furniture and objects

• Writer's Chair: a polished black wooden chair on a four-star base.
• Studio Seat Swivel Stool: a round black seat on a natural oak base.
• Avis Study Console: a two-drawer console with a natural wood-grain front.
• Candle Holder: a semi-circular wall-mounted holder in black and white for a single taper candle. Easily one of the most unique decorative candle pieces we carry.
• Bookcase Vase: a black rectangular vase with chrome tubes for single stems, made to sit on a bookshelf.

How to style a Manuhita piece

• Give it space. These are sculptural pieces, so keep the surface around them clear. One Jumbo Joan on an empty console says more than five accessories.
• Pair wall lights with a mirror. Two Franca wall lights either side of a mirror make a hallway or powder room feel like a boutique hotel.
• Mix sizes from one family. A Joan and a Lamplet Joan on different shelves feel connected without matching.
• Use the warm glow. Many of the lamps glow from within, so they work as soft evening light rather than reading light.
